Reports of such of a tape being shopped around have lingered for the last week, but it wasn't until Wednesday (March 15) that Barton broke her silence on the troubling development.

The 31-year-old actress and her attorney Lisa Bloom held a press conference in Los Angeles to announce that they'd filed a police report and subsequently won a restraining order to block sale of the footage.

According to Barton, a former boyfriend - who she did not name - filmed her without consent and subsequently tried to profit from the video when they broke up.

"This is a painful situation and my absolute worst fear was realized when I learned that someone that I thought I loved and trusted was filming my most intimate and private moments, without my consent, with hidden cameras," Barton told reporters.

Her lawyer Lisa Bloom said they had won a restraining order on any sales by arguing in court that Barton was "protected under California's laws against domestic violence".

"[Those laws] prohibit all forms of abuse by a former intimate partner. We consider this to be a form of domestic violence," Bloom added.

Barton went on to say that she was fighting back to "protect [other women] from the pain and humiliation" she'd experienced, adding: "No woman should have to go through this."

It has been a very difficult few months for the former OC star, who revealed that she'd been drugged with GHB at a birthday celebration back in January.
